Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008) 04 Nov 2026

Pin on your face mask and grab your Zydrate because we are discussing Darren Lynn Bousman's Repo! The Genetic Opera (2008). Co-written by Terrance Zdunich, the rock opera about a dystopian future, organ repossession, and blind opera singers is an ambitious swing that doesn't always connect with us, principally because the movie moves so quickly and the songs are too short! Plus: scene stealers Paris Hilton and Sarah Brightman (!); comparisons to Rocky Horror and Stage Fright (2014); the gender fluidity of Pavi Largo (Skinny Puppy's Nivek Ogre); our fave songs, and where a potential sequel could go. Night of the Demons 2 (1994) 28 Oct 2026

Fill that Super Soaker with holy water and get ready for a little head, tiger, because we're discussing Brian Trenchard-Smith's hilarious straight-to-video sequel Night of the Demons 2 (1994)! C/W: sexual assault. Join us as we celebrate Halloween with Angela (Amelia Kinkade) at Hull House (and St. Rita's Academy), snakes and all. It's a movie that made Joe exclaim "You don't expect boobs to turn into hands!" Slap it on the poster. Plus: learning about fellatio, the return of the demonic lipstick, and heaping all of the praise on Jennifer Rhodes' Sister Gloria, who may be our new favorite horror movie character. Questions? Carrie (2013) feat. Phillip Iscove 21 Oct 2026

Step on the gas because we're are revisiting another Carrie adaptation with Kimberly Peirce's 2013 film. Joining us for the discussion is Podcast Like It's... co-host and Sleepy Hollow creator Phillip Iscove, who didn't like the film 10+ years ago and still doesn't! Plus: the lack of queerness in such a heavily queer-made film; the "money shot" scene; praising Portia Doubleday's Chris; and tangents on Richard Kelly and Chloé Zhao. Questions? Comments? Snark? Bug (2006) 14 Oct 2026

We saved the best for last as we conclude "Thanks for the Judds," a six-week programming block on Ashley Judd thrillers, with a look at William Friedkin's controversial 2006 adaptation of Tracy Letts' play Bug, which boasts a career-best performance from Judd. So finish that impromptu tooth extraction and destroy that smoke alarm because we're going all in on this supremely disturbing film (though Friedkin considers it a black comedy!). You'll hear us say it in the episode, but this is a great fucking movie. Plus: offering a primer on Tracy Letts, returning to the dreaded F CinemaScore, and heaping all the praise on Judd's iconic "Super Mother Bug" monologue that closes the film. Questions? Comments? Twisted (2004) 07 Oct 2026

Our second-last entry in "Thanks for the Judds" is 2004's Twisted, directed by 1978's Invasion of the Body Snatchers' Philip Kaufman! This wannabe Noir/Erotic Thriller was written by female screenwriter Sarah Thorp, and is weirdly judgey and misogynistic when it comes to sex and sexuality. Plus: a queer-coded Camyrn Manheim; red herrings for every male character; a too-obvious villain; and the return of "Merry Christmas Daddy"!!! Questions? Comments? Snark? Connect with the boys on BlueSky, Instagram, Youtube, Letterboxd, or join the Horror Queers Discord to get in touch with other listeners. > Trace: @tracedthurman (BlueSky)/ @tracedthurman (Instagram) > Joe: @joelipsett (BlueSky) / @bstolemyremote (Instagram) Be sure to support the boys on Patreon! High Crimes (2002) 30 Sep 2026

Check your spouse for ambidexterity because it's week four of "Thanks for the Judds", a six-week programming block on Ashley Judd thrillers. Next up is Carl Franklin's legal thriller (for real this time) High Crimes (2002). Join us as we go all in on this Kiss the Girls reunion between Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman. It's all rather workmanlike and features way too many characters and subplots, but for people who love a good legal thriller: it's got the (predictable) goods. Plus: baby Adam Scott, Judd's extremely 2000s haircut and "post-Gen X" character, and the return of Joe's game (a lot). Questions? Comments? Snark? Double Jeopardy (1999) feat. Ali Chappell 23 Sep 2026

Snatch up that Kandinsky watercolor and perfect your New Orleans accent because it's week three of "Thanks for the Judds", a six-week programming block on Ashley Judd thrillers, with Bruce Beresford's Double Jeopardy (1999). Tagging in for the conversation is filmmaker and actress Ali Chappell. Join us as we go all in on what might be the pinnacle of Ashley Judd thrillers with this gender-flipped The Fugitive (it even co-stars Tommy Lee Jones!). That doesn't necessarily mean it follows any kind of logic, but that's all part of the fun in this riveting tale of revenge. Plus: jail vs. prison, an Ashley Judd pistol whipping, and debunking the film's understanding of "double jeopardy." Questions? Comments? Snark? Eye of the Beholder (1999) 16 Sep 2026

Keep an EYE out for snow globes because we are continuing "Thanks for the Judds", a six-week programming block on Ashley Judd thrillers, with Stephan Elliott's bafflingly sedate erotic(?) thriller(?) Eye of the Beholder (1999). Join us as we try to figure out what's going on in Elliott's re-adaptation of Marc Behm's 1980 novel of the same name. It starts to makes sense when you understand the horrendous issues Elliott faced during the film's troubled production, but still. Plus: k.d. Lang serving up some queer representation, a bleached blond Jason Priestley, Ashley Judd's wig game, and did we mention snow globes? Because there are so. Many. Snowglobes. Merry Christmas, Daddy! Kiss The Girls (1997) 09 Sep 2026

Keep an eye out for doors and walls and stairs because we are kicking off "Thanks for the Judds", a six-week programming block on Ashley Judd thrillers, with Gary Fleder's Kiss The Girls (1997). Nominated by listener Az, each week we'll dive into a new Judd title, starting with the one that made her a bankable lead...and one that she has a very different relationship to all these years later. Plus: two climaxes for our "Leopold and Loeb" killers; a commanding Tony "Goldwyn-ing" performance; and the evolution of Alex Cross over time. Questions? Comments? Snark? Let's Scare Jessica To Death (1971) 02 Sep 2026

Grab your cello and wear your wedding dress in the pond because we are talking 1971's indie psychological thriller Let's Scare Jessica To Death. Starring an understated Zohra Lampert and the seductive Mariclare Costello, the film is a great early example of gaslight horror. Plus: the death of the free love movement; debate about whether Jessica is going crazy or if the threat is real; Joe's hilarious relationship with the score; and comparisons to Carmilla. Rear Window (1954) 29 Jul 2026

Break out that telephoto lens because we are spying on the neighbors with Alfred Hitchcock's 1954 masterpiece, Rear Window. Part technical exercise (a la Rope), part treatise on marriage and gender roles, the film finds Jimmy Stewart debating Grace Kelly in between trying to solve a potential murder across the courtyard. Dreamcatcher (2003) 22 Jul 2026

Join us as we go all in on the farty farty aliens populating this hilarious misfire that often feels like a bad Kevin Smith script. It's a film filled with characters who get a single defining trait (if they're lucky) played by respectable actors who are here for the paycheck (looking at you, Morgan Freeman). Crimes of Passion (1984) 15 Jul 2026

Huff those poppers and wield that bladed stake vibrator thing you stupid douchebag, because we're talking our very first Ken Russell film in his messy-but-fascinating erotic thriller Crimes of Passion (1984)! Join us as we do a deep dive into what Joe describes as a John Waters fever dream. It's a film that boasts fantastic performances from Kathleen Turner and Anthony Perkins (in a role we would deem "brave" for the actor), who electrify the screen when its not focused on the torturous mundane existence that is heterosexual marriage. Plus, X-rated MPAA woes, that "magic" trick, silhouette sex, debating the mixed messaging of the ending, and genuinely wondering when the hell Joanna sleeps! Questions? Comments? Snark? The Howling (1981) 08 Jul 2026

Make note of that smiley face sticker and snag that conveniently-placed jar of acid because we're talking Joe Dante's stealth werewolf classic The Howling (1981)! Join us as we discuss the film's deviations from its source material before doing a deep dive into this very tongue-in-cheek, self-aware horror film. It honestly feels like a precursor to Scream, in many ways! Plus: Roger Corman (again!) those incredible special effects, differentiating "color movies" from "movies in color," and why queer icon Elisabeth Brooks has us going "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!" References: Nat Behmer. “Marsha, Marsha, Marsha: The Legacy of ‘The Howling’ and One of Horror’s Most Unsung Femme Fatales”. Medium. Adam Carston. "Primal Scream: An Oral History of The Howling". Independence Day (1996) 01 Jul 2026

Today, we celebrate our Independence Day...courtesy of gay German director Roland Emmerich. As the summer blockbuster celebrates its 30th anniversary, we're looking back on an alien disaster film that scared young Trace (thanks to that alien autopsy scene) and turned Will Smith into a star. Plus: the death that upsets the most; bemoaning Vivica A. Fox's career; pondering what could have been with the casting; why Smith's bravado and the film's patriotism doesn't always work for Joe; and plenty of riffing on the atrocious sequel. Questions? Interview: Leviticus Writer/Director Adrian Chiarella 26 Jun 2026

A spoiler-filled discussion with writer/director Adrian Chiarella on his 2026 queer horror romance film, Leviticus. We discuss casting Mia Wasikowska, the film's sex scene, the implications of the ending, the loss of support for LGBTQIA stories, and the possibility of a sequel. Questions? Comments? Snark? Homicidal (1961) 24 Jun 2026

Grab your favorite surgical knife and call your mobile knife sharpener because we're discussing our very first William Castle film in his 1961 Psycho homage (or rip-off...you decide) Homicidal! Join us as we discuss the origins of William Castle, aka "The Gimmick Guy", before diving into a film that has a fantastic first and last 15 minutes, but also a middle hour filled with obscene amounts of exposition. And don't forget about the Fright Break! Plus: Alyssa Edwards chatter, humans drinking bowls of warm milk, all the praise for Jean Arless' (aka Joan Marshall's) dual performance, and a primer on Christine Jorgensen, the first person to become widely known in the United States for having gender reassignment surgery. Micro Queers: Tickled (2016) 22 Jun 2026

Ignore that threatening email from Jane O'Brien media because we are discussing queer director David Farrier's thriller-y documentary, Tickled (2016). If you haven't seen it, watch the doc first because you won't believe where this exposé of "competitive tickling videos" goes and we are spoiling ALL of the reveals. Plus: Joe's discomfort with the Richard Ivey segment, pondering the extent of the empire, and debate about the ending Questions? Comments? Snark? Saltburn (2023) 17 Jun 2026

Slurp up that cummy bath water because we are talking about writer/director Emerald Fennell's divisive satirical thriller Saltburn (2023). From its sublime cast to its gorgeous visual aesthetic, there's a lot to love here. But does Fennell push her class critique hard enough and are these characters too despicable? Plus: "pug faced" (hung) king Barry Keoghan; Trace's hatred of Farleigh; wanting more Rosamund Pike; and debating why the film is so polarizing. Questions? Comments? Snark? The Cable Guy (1996) feat. Kill By Kill 10 Jun 2026

Get ready to tell us where you like it as we head to Medieval Times because we're discussing Ben Stiller's Jim Carrey-starring black comedy The Cable Guy (1996) for its 30th anniversary! Tagging in for the conversation are Patrick Hamilton and Gena Radcliffe of the Kill By Kill Podcast. Join us as we go all in on the oddly prescient (and highly media literate) film made famous by Jim Carrey's $20 million paycheck. From Carrey's incredibly creepy performance to a nightmare sequence straight out of A Nightmare on Elm Street, there are a lot more horror (and homoerotic) undertones to this film than you might expect! Plus, that iconic karaoke sequence, sexy Jack Black and comparisons to Single White Female, So I Married an Axe Murderer and Scream. Questions? Comments? Snark? Queen of the Damned (2002) 03 Jun 2026

Practice your Egyptian accent and bare that midriff because we are talking the troubled "adaptation" of Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned (2002). Directed by Australian Michael Rymer, this one was doomed by the suits before it was even greenlit (which happened AFTER all of the songs were written by Korn frontman Jonathan Davis). It's a bit of a clusterfuck. Plus: praising everything Aaliyah (RIP); critiquing everything Stuart Townsend (aside from his abs and leather pants); a soft queer reading of Marius; and bemoaning boring protagonist/audience surrogate JESSE.
